Matching Grant Update

Our Summer Matching Grant has been gaining momentum and is coming to a close. From now until September 30th your donation to us will still be matched! Matching grants offer us a sense of stability and allow us to double our impact. We are steadily moving forward and continue to come up with new and innovative ways to help our community members. All donations and pledges made before September 30th will be matched. This is our only matching grant for 2021 and meeting the full amount is imperative for the continuation of our projects in Nicaragua. Pledges and memorial contributions will also be matched. We are grateful for the support and donations we have received throughout this difficult year  and we deeply appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement.

Pledges, including monthly donations and
memorial contributions, will be matched.
Recurring gifts are the bedrock of our Foundation and help keep our work sustainable. Please consider becoming a monthly donor; even a small amount makes a big impact!

20th Anniversary of the San Juan del Sur Biblioteca November 16, 2021

CANCELLED

The San Juan del Sur Biblioteca was to be the site of our 20th anniversary on November 16, 2021. Plans were being made for an anniversary celebration day in the park including our annual Read for the Record event, a variety of awards, chess tournament, crafts for the children and an appreciation day for teachers in the library; all of the usual trimmings. An executive librarians tour of Nicaragua was also in the works as well as the initiation of our two community development projects for 2022. Stay tuned for our virtual celebration options.

The COVID outbreak in San Juan del Sur and most of Nicaragua has been severe. While vaccines are slowly becoming available and being administered, public events, lack of social distancing and sufficient precautions are taking a huge toll as COVID continues to spread. Edwin Vasquez, Biblioteca Administrator, earnestly requested we not hold an event that could become another super spreader. We wholeheartedly agreed. The HJH Board and the SJDS Biblioteca Staff all feel this is the right decision.

Update on Edwin

We are pleased to announce Edwin is recovering well from his severe case of COVID and the rest of our staff and families are doing well. While it seems these disappointments and the inability to move forward as we wish are frustrating, we are optimistic about our plans for 2022 (see our last newsletter) and want to make every effort to all be present to enjoy them. We look forward to a healthy and powerful 2022.
Thank you again everyone, especially all of you who consider yourselves part of our “Nica family” either for many years or just from moments ago, for your friendship, support and for walking alongside us! We are coming closer to meeting our matching grant goal but we still need your help to reach a stable amount. A huge thank you to those of you who have contributed!

Take good care,
Jane Mirandette
